Spokane Guilds School

History

The Spokane Guilds’ School Foundation was founded in 1983 when the School’s Board of Directors recognized that funding for the School’s operation was dependent upon insufficient and restricted government grants and programs. Recognizing the need to become more self-sustaining the Foundation Board has raised and managed an investment fund, thereby creating a stable financial base for the future operation of the School. Semi-annual disbursements of dividends are made to fund current operating costs for the School. The Foundation is a separate tax-exempt corporation that qualifies as a community foundation. Since its inception the SGS Foundation has provided the School with over $825,000.

A volunteer board of up to 30 trustees is comprised of community leaders who work to significantly increase the fund balance. The Foundation growth comes from gifts designated by the donor or by the School’s Board of Directors. Gifts as simple as a single penny may be made through the annual “Kids for Kids” Penny Drive, or a donor may wish to give cash, securities, insurance policies or more sophisticated estate planning gifts.
